Cashless events and venues. With contactless payment form factors acting as both ticket and payment vehicles cashless events and venues are now a real possibility. This is increasingly stated as a desire of event owners and their operating licenced partners.
In addition location based promotions in-venue allows ordering of ‘personalised’ goods or services enabling further revenue generation for these owners and promoters. Ticketing, access and cash management are three functions that might represent up to 30% of the total costs of fixed or festival events. Cash is expensive and hard to secure given the highly fragmented points of payment.The gradual removal of cash is good for the bottom line.
The Hub In-venue solution:
Using the Hub In-venue platform solution it is possible that the customer could buy or collect a contactless ticket and EMV payment form factor e.g. card, wristband or mobile smartphone. This form factor would be reloadable via The Hub In-venue reload stations and act as the fast track payment vehicle at food stalls, bars and any enabled retailer. In addition, these form factors carry additional smart VIP loyalty schemes providing access to relevant location based benefits. On leaving the venue the customer could be customised to re-cycle the form factor and redeem or transfer the money left on the The Hub In-venue account to a complementary EMV debit card account.
The Hub platform is an API (Application Programming Interface) gateway for personalisation, product, promotion and payment between the enterprise and programmable devices that act as consumer touch points. The Hub platform is centrally hosted within a 24/7 secured datacentre. The hosted solution has been enhanced to manage highly secure and encrypted data to PCI DSS compliance levels where required.
The Hub platform, products and services are predominantly sold under what is referred to as a SaaS (Software as a Service) offer. This reflects the fact that we have pre-existing pre-accredited software (and often integrated hardware) solutions available to be deployed immediately. Although customisation is nearly always required it is thought that up to 80% of the set up costs can be removed and speed to market is significantly increased.

The Hub platform is integrated with partners who open up various payment acceptance touch points such as EPOS, UPT, mobile, handheld, people turnstiles and car park access to name a few.
Multi-form factor
There are a wide range of alternative ticketing and payment form factors. The Hub handles cash, magstripe and barcoded readers in their In-venue solution. It was the 1st in the UK to obtain WorldPay accreditation for unattended chip and PIN payments. It is now partnered to provide issuance and payment support to a variety of new smart form factors such as chip embedded paper or SIM cards, smartphones, wristbands or any attended or unattended device programmable over the air.
Multi-content
Given The Hub In-venue solution involves multi-channel and form factors there is an opportunity to add a multitude of location based content (e.g. artist downloads, location based promotions etc ). This might come in the form of mobile vouchers; UPT mobile top up or EPOS discounts. All of this could also be related to a loyalty scheme exclusive to the Hub in-venue contactless ticket and payment form factor.
Data management
Given the 24/7 hosting of encrypted and unencrypted data there is always customer insight and CRM analysis opportunities. This of course is based on who owns the data and the protection rules set up to protect the consumer.
